It happens...you're wooden fence isn't going to last forever. Depending on what part of the country you live in, it may deteriorate faster than expected. Especially if you have neglected it with a proper stain or sealant. But the question is, when a piece of your fence get's damaged...is it worth repairing it or should you splurge for a new fence?
It's not an easy question, and we've checked with our Austin Fence Supply specialists for some tips and ideas.
First off, it's best to just go ahead and call a company that does both repairs and replacement. They'll be able to give you the best advice, and hopefully the best options (not just saying you need to drop hundreds for a full new fence).
Secondly, you need to consider what type of fence you have and how much damage it has taken. If it's just a few pickets, and nothing around the main fence posts, it's easy to have those replaced at a low cost. Once it gets to a panel or two (groups of pickets), then it's worth considering a new fence.
Lastly, the age of your fence is a big factor. If it's a fairly new fence that you've just added that has sustained storm damage, small repairs is a good idea. But if it's already been sitting out in the weather, aging for years, it's probably time to go all out. The last thing you want is to pay for a small repair or two, and then have the rest of the fence fall down shortly because it already old enough to not stay up.
Do yourself a favor, if you think your fence needs attention, don't wait around. Go ahead and call a fencing specialist to come out and take a look.
